Wunderlist Partners With Sequoia
And Raises $19 Million
Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Wunderlist. One that is very much centered around a new partnership and a very bright future. We are incredibly excited and well, downright honored to welcome Sequoia Capital on board, and to confirm that we have a major update to Wunderlist in the works.
Sequoia, with the support of our existing investors Atomico and Earlybird Venture Capital, have invested US $19 Million to ensure the on-going success of Wunderlist. What’s more, the partnership signals Sequoia's first foray into the emerging world of young German technology companies and also sees Sir Michael Moritz join our board, a thumbs up to the thriving tech scene here in Berlin and a massive coup for Wunderlist!
The opportunity to work with such a world renowned venture firm is humbling, especially when you consider that Sequoia has worked closely with some of the most admired entrepreneurs and companies around the world. We are talking Steve Jobs of Apple, Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google and more recently the likes of Arash Ferdowsi and Drew Houston from Dropbox and Phil Libin from Evernote, just to name a few.
To give you an idea of the scale of their expertise, Sequoia backed companies have grown to make up 20% of the total value of the NASDAQ. Partners with this kind of experience and proven track record are incredibly hard to find. We feel very proud to have them, along with the rest of our investors, on our team. This partnership will ensure that Wunderlist continues to redefine the productivity market again and again, and that we can source the best people (yes we are hiring!) on the planet to make it happen.
###Your Wunderlist is about to get even better
With our new partners we will release Wunderlist 3 - a brand-new Wunderlist, in early 2014. Although, we don’t want to give away too much, we would still like to fill you in on the journey so far and share some details.
The idea of Wunderlist 3 was born as a result of a new design approach — to make your Wunderlist faster and lighter. It all started when we sat down to redesign Wunderlist for iOS 7. Here, we questioned every single UI element and interaction to determine what is important to you and the overall Wunderlist experience.
We felt very early on in the process that we were onto something much, much bigger. But in order to introduce an entirely new design we knew we had to keep it consistent and simple. There was only one way to do that, and that’s to bring our redesign to all of your devices, yes the brand new Wunderlist 3 will arrive on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows and the Web.
So, what can we tell you without ruining your surprise?! Well, the most impressive feature of Wunderlist 3 will be speed. The new lighter UI, together with an all-new real-time sync, will make you feel like you are sitting next to your colleague or friend, although you’re both thousands of miles apart. We are also planning to make our API public in order to integrate with the third-party services you love. We can’t wait to introduce you!
###A big thanks to you
With Wunderlist as your digital planner, it’s the place for you to organize everything you want and need to do at work and home. So, it is our job to continually make this experience better, and better! It started with the launch of Wunderlist 2 back in December 2012, then the introduction of Wunderlist Pro in April 2013 and today it continues with a new chapter. An exciting chapter that sees us joining forces with Sequoia and the promise of the arrival of Wunderlist 3 in early 2014.
Before we sign off, we must say we wouldn’t be here sharing this news, if it wasn’t for you! We want to send a very big thank-you to all 6 million of you. Thank you for your support and sharing Wunderlist with all your colleagues, friends and loved ones.
