Improving Wunderlist’s Sync
Work in Progress
In the past few weeks, we’ve experienced some reliability issues with the Wunderlist sync function. As a result, your lists may not have successfully synced across your devices. We are truly sorry and want to assure you that our focus as a team is developing the fastest and most stable sync for Wunderlist. We also want to share with you how you can manually sync your Wunderlist, with help from our Support Center. We also want to explain what happened and what we’re doing to build a trustworthy sync.
Where can I get support?
If you’re still logged into Wunderlist, we have outlined some steps to sync your lists on our Support Center.
To support Wunderlist across Web, iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Android, we process all sync functions through a central set of servers. As our community continues to grow, we found it necessary to be proactive and move toward a decentralized type of architecture. This way if notes, for example, are down, it won’t bring down notifications.
As part of this process, we have to move all of the centrally housed data into the new servers. This is a difficult one time process and is the reason we’ve experienced sync issues as well as some data inconsistency across the multiple platforms Wunderlist supports.
What is next?
We’re reorganizing this massive amount of data with great care to ensure a faster system that’s always available. It’s a meticulous process because our first priority is transferring all of your lists to the new architecture in perfect condition. The good thing is that work is already underway and the average sync time is already 30% faster. However, there will be some scheduled maintenance to ease these growing pains, we will do our best to keep you informed on what’s going on.
On Sunday, July 7th at 11:30am, Wunderlist will be temporarily unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Our engineers will work on continuing to move list data to its new home in separate databases. Once the move is complete, stability will be improved. During this time we will continue to keep you updated via Twitter, Facebook and Google+.
Right now, our continued focus as a team is developing the fastest and most stable sync. Please stick with us and we promise the Wunderlist you’ll soon experience will be worth your patience.
