A Guide to Public Lists
You know how to create a list. And how to share a list. But you might be wondering just what Wunderlist 3’s new Public Lists are all about. Read on, because we’re going to give you the lowdown on why you’ll love them and how to create some of your own.
Public Lists actually don’t look any different from your normal lists. On the left side of the picture is a packing list, which is only useful for yourself. In the middle is a groceries list. That’s a list you’ll want to share, so your loved one can pick up the coffee and dessert on the way home. But it’s also the type of list you’ll only want to share privately - let’s face it, the rest of us don’t really need to know that you’re out of toilet paper.
Over on the right side, is a Public List of Kate’s favorite movies. But it could also easily be a list of your favorite restaurants. This is exactly what Public Lists are made for. Instead of adding all of your friends’ email addresses to share a list, you just need to hit the publish button. Like magic, your Public List gets its own unique website that you can post to your social media profiles. You can then sit back and wait for the accolades to roll in, as your friends thank you for your great recommendations, how-tos, recipes etc. So now that you’ve got a better idea of what Public Lists are, here’s a few more examples of what you can do with them:
Share knowledge, quickly
Great ideas start with a list of small steps. Amazon CTO Werner Vogels’ list of Leadership Principles are a great example of how you can quickly share your knowledge with a Public List.
The ultimate guide
Whether it’s a city you know like the back of your hand, how to prepare for a sporting event or everything you need for a festival. Public Lists like Adam Wiggins’ guide to Burning Man are the perfect way to share what you know with the world.
Have a little fun
Our very own resident LGM (Lead Gif Maker) Joakim Keussen shows that everyone can have a little fun with Public Lists too.
Create your own
Now that you’ve got a better idea of what type of lists you can publish, here’s what you need to know to get started.
If you think you have the ultimate horror movie list, the most delicious choc-chip cookie recipe or know the best way to prepare for a marathon - turn it into a Public List, we can’t wait to see them!
