10 Things You Might Not Know
We live and breathe Wunderlist everyday. Sometimes though, it’s easy to forget that not everyone knows all the little tricks that make using Wunderlist even easier than it already is. We surveyed the office and came up with 10 of our favorite lesser-known Wunderlist features to share with you. Let’s get started!
1. Get your to-dos to work for you as you type
You might have heard us talking a lot about Smart Due Dates lately, but there’s a couple of extra features you might not be aware of. On Mac and want to prioritize a to-do? Add a ‘*’ before you start typing! But that’s not all, you can also assign to-dos to people as you type in a shared list. Simply write @David and once you hit enter your to-do will automatically be assigned. If you’ve followed the last tip then your to-do might look a little like this: ‘* Finish off presentation tomorrow @David’ which, of course, would set a due date for tomorrow, assign it to David and also prioritize it.
2. Keep your hands on the keyboard with shortcuts
If you’re now addicted to keeping your hands well away from that mouse then you’ll like our next tip—shortcuts! Here’s a few simple ones to get you started: CTRL/CMD+D to tick off your to-do, CTRL/CMD+N to set yourself a new to-do and CTRL/CMD+L to start a new list. There are a few other options—on Web and Mac you can also head to your Wunderlist settings and check out all the shortcuts in store for you as well as customize them to suit your needs.
3. Discover the finer details of Mac's Quick Add & Search
Talking of shortcuts, it’s time to talk about one of our favorites—Mac’s Quick Add & Search (CTRL+ALT+W). Quick Add lets you easily add a to-do to any of your lists even when you’re in a different app. Quick Search is where things start to get even smarter. If you toggle across to the magnifying glass you can now search for any of your to-dos. Type ‘/’ and you’ll also see a number of options pop up such as /me or /today or even /tomorrow. Click on any of these, e.g. /tomorrow and all your to-dos that are due tomorrow will be displayed, choose one of them and it will take you straight to the relevant list.
4. Prioritize with tags
Starring a to-do is a beautiful and simple way to mark something as important. But what happens when you need more prioritization levels? We use tags. Want to prioritize by #A, #B, #C or #1, #2, #3 levels or #High, #Medium, #Low? Figure out what suits you and then put the tags at the beginning of your to-do. e.g. #A Fix broken link on website. You can then sort alphabetically to see all your priorities sorted into batches. Only want to focus on the #Urgent ones? Click on the tag and it will bring up all your to-dos from all your different lists where you’ve labeled it with #Urgent.
5. Restore that list you accidentally deleted
Did you momentarily get distracted and hit ‘Delete List’ instead of ‘Print’? Before you send yourself into a crying frenzy, we’re here to tell you it’s ok, your list is still safe for 30 days. Dry your eyes, head to wunderlist.com/restore and you’ll be all smiles.
6. Duplicate your most used lists
On Web and Android you can duplicate your lists! Why is this useful, you ask? Well, if you have a packing, shopping or gym workout list that you use time and time again you can now create a Templates Folder, fill it with all the template lists you need and then duplicate it each time you’re heading off on holiday. Once the holiday is over you can delete the list and start over again. Head to the list you want to duplicate, hit the 3 dots for more and simply select Duplicate List.
7. Connect Wunderlist with your favorite apps
We have all sorts of interesting and useful integrations that can help you be more productive from Slack to Google Now, with Zapier and HipChat in between. Click on the links to learn how you can connect Wunderlist with your favorite apps.
8. Discover all your Smart Lists
Did you know that you can see all your to-dos in one go? Our Smart Lists are pretty nifty at showing you your to-dos in handy categories such as Today, Week, Assigned to Me and All to name a few. Just head to the app settings to get started. You can even change the settings so that you only see the to-dos that are assigned to you and on your own private lists if you don’t want to be distracted by everyone else’s to-dos.
9. Save for later with Add to Wunderlist
We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again, if you’re not making the most of Add to Wunderlist, you really ought to! With Add to Wunderlist you can save any webpage of interest to one of your lists. So whenever you come across an interesting restaurant you want to try or a book you want to read just click on the extension and it will be saved in your Wunderlist for future reference.
10. Keep your lists quiet
If you need to concentrate on the task at hand and don’t want to be disturbed by a particular shared list then hit the ‘Do not disturb’ button. We’ll stop notifying you that your other half has just completed ‘Tomatoes’ on your shopping list. The best bit, is that you’ll still get reminders and notifications about the to-dos assigned to you. Want to track their shopping movements again? Just hit that Do not Disturb button again.
