Get fit in 2014
With Wunderlist

January 2, 2014 - Comments

A few years ago, sitting in the July heat on a wall in the Harajuku district of Tokyo, I came to a conclusion: I had let myself become a loser. At least, I had let myself become a partial loser. I was fat and unhappy. My skin looked grey. I was slowly killing myself. I was obese. I made excuses to myself and others. I used my success in other areas as a justification: I just wasn’t a fitness guy. It was bullshit. These days I’m still not an elite athlete, but I turned things around. I’ve lost nearly 100 pounds, gone from a max ability to run 45 seconds at a time to running several half...

So, we thought we’d share it with all of you today: Most interaction designers start with wireframing — laying out content with sketches or an app like balsamiq. It's important to break apart the content and beautification process, helping the designer and the client focus on smaller pieces of the puzzle, instead of everything at once. Beginning with wireframing,...

Given my studies, my career had to be in marketing, right? Being a fan of Wunderlist, I checked out...

For such a young company, only three years old, 6Wunderkinder has a long and somewhat dramatic history. We (almost) bet the company on Wunderkit, and as many of you know, it didn't turn out too well. We halted development on Wunderkit last year and took from it a whole lot of technical, design, and business lessons. So when the time...

Why Business Software is Broken
Our promise to keep things simple

July 9, 2013 - Comments

Every piece of business software ever written, is horribly broken. This article will tell you how to stop your software suffering from the same fate. He’s right. In fact, it’s worse than that. Lack of focus is the biggest risk to a startup, an enterprise, a product, or an individual. This got us thinking. Why do we as humans constantly suffer through this struggle between distraction and focus? More...

The Future of 6Wunderkinder
Auf Wiedersehen Wunderkit and Hello Wunderlist 2

September 6, 2012 - Comments

Two months ago we shared an incredible Wunderlist milestone with you. That day was special for us, we were truly moved by the feedback we received from you. For us it reinforced the success of Wunderlist and set a clear path for our future. This year we’ll launch Wunderlist 2 and say “Auf Wiedersehen” to Wunderkit. Some of you will be really surprised, while others may have already predicted this. So let us tell you a bit more about what happened – and why Wunderkit will remain in beta and will not be developed any further. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when we are having to say it...

So many things have happened - we’ve launched two products on 11 platforms, and we’ve seen them become the daily companion of millions of people around the world. We have been so busy, we not only forgot to celebrate some of our milestones, we also missed the opportunity to share some important lessons with you. So, today I would first like to take this...

Wunderlist reaches more than 100 million tasks

July 4, 2012 - Comments

Sorry that we’ve been somewhat MIA lately with regards to our blog. We’ve been incredibly busy working away behind the scenes on our products, doing some fine-tuning with the backend, tinkering with features and without giving too much away, working on something completely new. We’ll have more news to share soon, so stay tuned. During our focus time we forgot to celebrate with you two of our biggest milestones yet. So please chill the champagne, buy some party supplies and get ready to commemorate this occasion with us! Last month, Wunderlist reached over 100 million tasks created and...

You better believe it! The tenth member of the Wunderlist family has finally arrived. After an exciting and fruitful affair with Metro, we’re proud to show the world our love child. Wunderlist for Windows Phone 7 is a mobile client sporting a totally new look and feel for the 6Wunderkinder product line. You’re gonna love it. Thanks to Metro you can experience your tasks in a whole new way. Enjoy bigger, beautiful text. Slide your way around...

From intern to CEO – Looking for a job? Join a startup

March 8, 2012 - Comments

Let’s face it, jobs are few and far between right now. Eyeing up a career, especially as a new graduate, is harder than it’s ever been. When I graduated in late 2010 I had so many things I wanted to do and so many things I wanted to be. But after almost 100 job applications and 6 billion phone calls, my bright and prosperous future had gotten smaller and smaller, to the point where I didn’t know what the world wanted of me. One thing stuck with me through the whole process though – and that was my love and passion for technology. Y’know what? Our futures are truly limitless in today’s day and...

We love you, Wunderlist.
And your 2 million users too!

February 21, 2012 - Comments

We couldn’t be more excited for Wunderlist to have reached 2 million users. To show our appreciation, we’ve decided to sit down and write our task manager a little love letter. Dear Wunderlist… You did it! You’ve reached 2 million users! We can’t believe that you’re all grown up, reaching your second million in almost half the time it took you to get the first. We could fill the Olympic Stadium here in Berlin almost 26 times with all those people. We know that you’re working hard helping hundreds of thousands of people organize themselves every day, and that you handle around 2.1 million...

From Berlin with love
Wunderkit is now free, forever

February 15, 2012 - Comments

Following on from Valentine’s day, we’re feeling the love. At 6Wunderkinder we’re pretty lucky, we’ve got a lot of loved ones… and they’re you guys! Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been going through all the Wunderkit feedback you’ve given us. We’d like to dedicate this day to those that have been helping us along the way, this update is for you! Many of you voiced concerns about our initial pricing plan. And for good reason. You worried that by using a free account you were not able to get involved with other people’s projects, and the fact that your friends would have to pay if they...

Creation is celebration
Unboxing the Wunderkit dream

February 9, 2012 - Comments

Wunderkit. I’m sure you know a lot about it already. And that’s a good thing. But maybe you’re missing the ‘why’ behind the product we’ve been working so hard on? If that’s the case, strap on your reading glasses. I’d like to invite you behind the scenes of 6Wunderkinder, and explain to you what Wunderkit means to us. After blood sweat and tears, we opened up Wunderkit’s doors to the public last week. But for us the concept of making this product meant much more than simply saying ‘Yay, we did it. Check it out’. We finally gave birth to our collective idea, our big vision. So what’s the...

Silence vs. Communication
A peek into our productiveness

February 7, 2012 - Comments

When you’re building software that aims to help people be more productive, you have to do a lot of research and test a bunch of different things. Which is exactly what we did. And we believe that sharing knowledge is one key factor for doing great work. That’s why we’d like to share some of our experiences, in the hope that you might gain some useful ideas or inspiration to improve your own productivity. Did you ever wonder if the guys that build productivity software are actually productive themselves? You might have conjured up this picture in your head of the 6Wunderkinder office… a...

The Wunderkit beta goes public
Welcome one and all

February 1, 2012 - Comments

What’s better than a Wunderkit beta? A Wunderkit beta open to the public! We’re super excited to open our doors to the entire world, and if you haven’t grabbed your slice of Wunderkit goodness yet, now’s the time! We started our closed beta at the beginning of January – letting a few people in here, a few people in there. The number grew and grew. At times our servers were sweating more than a 400lb runner, in a rubber suit, on a treadmill, in a sauna. Our task lists got bigger, our working hours got longer, and Eric’s following count exceeded the population of Vatican City. But these things...

A n00b’s journey into coding

January 27, 2012 - Comments

"So if you want to invest two years in something that will help you succeed in business, the evidence suggests you’d do better to learn how to hack than get an MBA." — Paul Graham Computers – it seems like I use one from the second I wake up to the moment my eyes slide shut for the night. But how do they work? For the average computer user, the inner workings of computer programming are about as easy to understand (and interesting) as string theory mixed with advanced tax law. But does this mean our large brained coding brethren are intellectually superior to us? While I can’t...

Changers by Name,
Changers by Nature

January 25, 2012 - Comments

Imagine waking up in the morning and instead of checking your Facebook newsfeed, you glance over at your daily ‘energy production’ feed. You scroll down to see how much your friend has reduced their CO2 emissions that week. You congratulate your buddy for all the credits they have earned, because they are about to cash in on a gift. Welcome to Changers. The Berlin-based startup has engineered a portable solar panel module equipped with a built-in battery that charges your mobile device. When connected to your computer, the total energy production (the energy produced using the solar panel)...

January 24, 2012 - Comments

Another day, another Wunderlist-supported device! It’s no secret that we’re on a mission to put our adored task manager in everyone’s hands, regardless of what device you’re using. Today we’re thrilled to announce Wunderlist for Blackberry, something that’s long been requested by some of you. In anyone’s eyes that’s one helluva big family, and we’re getting closer to our goal of supporting every major device and OS out there. So, what’s the story? Planting the seed As hinted by our blog...

Wunderful things are in store for 2012

January 9, 2012 - Comments

Drumroll please! It’s time to talk Wunderkit again. But what in particular? Well… where we’re at right now, how far we’ve got to go, and our elusive beta invite roll-out process. Our baby’s about to be born, and with this post, we’d like to take the opportunity to share some important updates with you. The last 12 months have been crazy – as you all know we’ve released Wunderlist on no less than 6 platforms – all the while developing Wunderkit in the shadows. On top of this, we’ve managed to squeeze in work on Wunderlist for two new devices – Blackberry and Windows Phone 7. It’s safe to say...

Atomico invests $4.200,000
in 6Wunderkinder

November 16, 2011 - Comments

Today Niklas Zennström (co-founder of Skype) has invested, with his venture capital firm Atomico, $4.2 million into our team and forthcoming product, Wunderkit. The investment means so much to us in so many ways, and we’re honored to have the support of Niklas and his team as we go forward. We are always looking for the best investors: Investors that will offer us impeccable guidance, who believe in what we do, who will follow us hand-in-hand as we change the world. Atomico is an investment firm that actively looks for companies with this mentality, and has funded more than 50 companies on...

The Wunderkit show is about to start. Grab a front row seat

October 20, 2011 - Comments

This past year has been an amazing time for us at 6Wunderkinder HQ. Wunderlist has continued to outshine every productivity tool out there, and everyone from The New York Times to the BBC has been interested in what we, as a company, have to say. We also came third at the Vodafone Mobile Click Awards 2011, bringing home a fantastic €25,000 in prize money. All of this stuff, put simply, is incredible. But things are about to get a whole lot more exciting, for all of us. Unless you’ve been living on the moon or have some irrational fear of gossip, you should know that Wunderkit is almost here....

New members join the family:
Assistly and Wunderlist for Linux

September 20, 2011 - Comments

Boom! We’ve got two big nuggets of news for all of you today. Number 1: Support. Support is incredibly important, and knowledge is power. The customer service fairy has been sent down from the heavens and delivered you a brand new Wunderlist support page. Christmas has come early, we know! Number 2: Penguin. Penguin? That’s right, Wunderlist for Linux is here. We know you Linux guys have been after it for some time, and Tux is now gracing the Wunderlist stage. These releases focus on two of our most important missions. We want to provide you with the best support and user experience. We also...

Think you're a power user?
With Wunderlist, you are

September 12, 2011 - Comments

Power user, Noun: any person who knows enough about a computer or other device to take full advantage of its advanced features. Sound like you? Maybe. But what about those of you who haven’t even heard of the word ‘power user’? Fear not. With Wunderlist 1.2.4, all of you are power users. We’re making your workflow even easier with today’s incredible update. Our feature roadmap is huge. I mean, this thing is a scroll. Other companies take these feature requests and cram them in, nearly always adding complexity. We look at each feature and try and find ways of making it easy to use. It’s as...

Wunderlist for Android?
Rebuilt, relaunched and really awesome!

September 5, 2011 - Comments

It’s been a little over 5 months since we launched Wunderlist for Android, and today we have some big news for all you droid heads. Lock and load your HTC Desires and Galaxy Tabs, Wunderlist has been rebuilt… from the ground up. No longer will you have to wait a second too long to enter a task, gone are the days of instability, want a widget? You got it. In the words of Daft Punk, Wunderlist for Android is ‘Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger’. We didn’t just sit there and write lines of code for this. We travelled to a far away land on our unicorns, and found this beast at the end of a rainbow....

Holy cow, we’re millionaires!
(Well, in terms of users)

August 17, 2011 - Comments

Wow. This is amazing. It’s only been a year since we founded 6Wunderkinder and guess what? We’ve hit our first one million users within 275 days. The icing on the cake? We’ve hit this number sooner than companies like Evernote, Twitter and Foursquare did. We couldn’t be happier. We knew at the very beginning that Wunderkit – a revolutionary, truly original take on productivity – would take at least a year of development, but we wanted to get something out right away. Wunderlist was born, and launched in November. We wanted to really understand the world of productivity, and it was our way of...

Founders STAND UP!
The anti-copycat revolution starts

August 9, 2011 - Comments

Berlin founders, this is your time. Did you know the very first computer was invented in this city? We should be proud of that! So, why the hell was Berlin known as the copycat capital of Europe? Think for a second. How many great technology startups have we invented in the last 40 years? Not many. People recognize us European founders as great executers, but also for not being very creative at all. All the creativity seems to be in the US right now, with companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Zynga, AirBnB, Dropbox and so on. All we’ve been able to do is...

“Your Wunderlist Story” Winner Builds a Clinic in Jamaica

July 29, 2011 - Comments

I spent the last few weeks reading over 300 stories submitted through our “Your Wunderlist Story” competition. First off, a big thank you to everyone that participated. I was lucky enough to indulge in a great collection of heart warming, thoughtful, humorous and really quirky stories from our users around the world. While reading some of the stories, I laughed so hard that the entire office could hear me, yet other stories left me teary-eyed and awestruck by the way people’s lives were transformed by Wunderlist. Here are a few of the standouts. Meet Seth Cain, an American who helped set up a...

Wunderlist on the Mac App Store… before and after

July 14, 2011 - Comments

Computers are just shiny boxes. There, I said it. So why do over 1 billion people log on every day? It’s all about software. Software transforms this plastic block into something magical, something that lets you see the world in a different way and helps you interact with other human beings. We use software to stay in touch with friends and family, to help us with our workload and to enjoy our spare time by catapulting birds into pigs. So, with software being such an invaluable part of personal computing, one would think the delivery of it should be of the upmost importance. Right? Well, it...

Amazing products need amazing people. We need you!

We worked in a split office, now we’re united in workspace bliss. Throw the continuing progress of Wunderkit into the mix and 6Wunderkinder fits the bill as one overly awesome place to work. We’ve even got a water fountain and a view of a graveyard. Come on, where else could you find that?! Why work at 6Wunderkinder? The work we do is incredibly important to us. We’re building products that help organize people’s lives...

Steve Jobs Joins Our Market.
Herzlich Willkommen!

June 7, 2011 - Comments

Yesterday was an eye opening day for all of us. While watching the live stream of Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference, we quickly discovered that Apple has now joined the market of productivity by integrating a task manager into iOS 5. As mentioned on Mashable, a lot of people believe that Apple just killed an armada of startups, i.e. Dropbox, Instapaper, Instagram, Camera Plus, Sparrow, What’s App, Spotify, Last.fm, and even Wunderlist. We couldn’t disagree more. Sure, some people are angry, but Apple hasn’t killed anything, they’ve just joined in on the fun. Diversification is a good...

New Kids on the 6Wunderkinder Block

May 13, 2011 - Comments

Meet the original six Wunderkinder and their new brothers and sisters. We love having breakfast, playing Hacky Sack and take long walks on the beach together. (Ok the last bit was a lie). But we do have a rockin’ time at the office and we’re always happy to expand our team. The new guys add a lot of character to our family. Michael likes to walk around shouting ‘rødgrød med fløde’, Marcus keeps an Eagle Eye on the Angry Birds, Eric likes to treat his coworkers to french fries and Sebastian does a great job of managing his code-monkeys. Welcome to the jungle. Wanna meet our Hacky-Sac lovin’...

So a big thank you from all of us! “We fixed a lot of inconsistencies between our mobile and desktop versions. The new Wunderlist desktop app...

500,000 Registered Users Strong

March 30, 2011 - Comments

At 6Wunderkinder, we have reached a lot of milestones in the few short months since we introduced Wunderlist to the world: one million downloads, expanding Wunderlist to iPad, Android and the Web, hosting our own Wunderland startup conference – and we haven’t even unleashed the power of Wunderkit yet. But having 500,000 registered users means more to us than any other milestone so far. Most of you know from experience that trying a new app is a time commitment. It means downloading, opening and testing something that could very well be a colossal waste of your time. More than a million of you...

Android, web app and 1 million downloads. Our week of productivity.

March 11, 2011 - Comments

Holy moly! The last days were packed full of excitements for the whole 6Wunderkinder team. Not only did we release Wunderlist for Android with a big bang, but also the brand-new Wunderlist web app went online today. Another great thing for us to celebrate: over 1 million people decided to download Wunderlist for iPhone and iPad. Jaahaa! Thank you so much for all your support and all your patience. I know I say this a lot, but I really mean it. Without having literally millions of people downloading our products and trusting in us, we simply couldn’t do these things everyday. Productivity hits...

Wunderlist HD for iPad

February 23, 2011 - Comments

The Wunderlist family is getting bigger! To all our users who have waited past the due date for Wunderlist to make its way out of the womb and onto the big screen, the wait is finally over. Wunderlist HD is here, and it’s doing a lot more than just looking cute. The iPhone version always wanted a younger brother; It’s going to be jealous. So why the short delay? Well, we wanted to do more than just crank Wunderlist up to a higher resolution. After the success of Wunderlist for iPhone and desktops, and all of the feedback and suggestions from our users, we really wanted to deliver. Was it...

Android, iPad and the browser. Wunderful!

February 3, 2011 - Comments

Who listens to their customers? We do! This is not your ordinary update announcement, this is dedication at its best. You wanted it all, so we will deliver. During February we will strengthen the Wunderlist product family, starting with iPad and a new iPhone version at the end of next week. Of course, every app will stay free! During the last two months our easy-to-use task manager Wunderlist became such a great success for us. We received countless positive feedback from all over the globe. So we’ve made a decision: instead of merely treating Wunderlist as an appetizer for the upcoming...

A Little Review of 2010

January 3, 2011 - Comments

What a year! During the holidays, we had some time to look back at 2010 and to realize what we achieved so far. We just didn’t expect such a big success. We wanted 15,000 users by the end of February 2011. What we got were over 110,000 Wunderlist users in less than two months. No, we don’t want to complain. Actually, we are pretty happy with the progress. And we are pretty happy with our users, too. Here and there we still have some technical issues reported by some people. But considering the number of users we already have, the number of support tickets is so small. Some more numbers To...

Startup Stories Lesson 1 –
How We Got VC

December 22, 2010 - Comments

Many of you may know this situation: you think you’ve got a brilliant idea, but you know that you will need a whole lot of money to realize it. This may be the moment you think of presenting your idea to a VC for the first time. This is our story raising 600,000 Euros in four months for nothing more than an idea. Don’t get us wrong! We’re no heroes and we don’t know anything yet. And we definitely think that building a sustainable business that makes enough revenue to grow naturally is worth at least as much as convincing an investor of your idea. But for us the “VC approach” was the right...

You downloaded our tool, you shared our link, you invited your friends and you gave us so many great comments and feedback that we are just enchanted by your love :) Our christmas present for this year We want to give some of...

Meet us at LeWeb’10

November 30, 2010 - Comments

As a young software startup we try to learn from the big ones as often as possible. Of course we have our own visions, but listening to people who have way more experience than ourselves is an important part of our daily work. That’s why we will attend LeWeb’10 and we would love to meet you there. Finding idols and listening to what they have to say was always a crucial factor for us. No matter how hard you try and no matter how smart you are, there are always some things you didn’t expect at the beginning. It can be a great help to listen to people, who tell you about their mistakes, so that...

New Wunderlist Release
and answers to your questions

November 8, 2010 - Comments

Since we launched Wunderlist just one week ago the feedback has been great and most people seem to love the simplicity of our free task managment tool. However, we’ve got lots of responses, suggestions, feature requests and questions from all around the globe. Note: To benefit from the new features, please uninstall Wunderlist, download the new version from the http://6wunderkinder.com/Wunderlist and install it again. By the way, this tedious process will get fixed soon. We are still fixing some bugs and developing the iPhone App and barely find the time to implement new features....

A Retrospective:
Three Days of Craziness

November 12, 2010 - Comments

What a ride! Although we worked hard to make Wunderlist and our company website a good user experience for you, we didn’t imagine the number of positive reactions that are coming over us right now. We thought you might want to know a little bit more about what is going on behind closed doors in our office. So here we are, giving you some insights of how things are going. Hold on tight :) Everybody Loves Charts Three days ago, we launched our brand-new website and our first product Wunderlist. We began spreading it on Twitter, on Facebook and wrote an email to all cool tech blogs that we...

The 6Wunderkinder -
A Childhood’s Dream Comes True

November 8, 2010 - Comments

Building a web start-up with your school friends is probably something a lot of teenagers dream of these days.
